2013 Nostalgia Days Back On!

After the Nostalgia Days committee announced that it would need to take a one year hiatus on Monday to re-tool and re-organize, Zion Mayor Lane Harrison has announced at last night’s Zion City council meeting, that Nostalgia Days WILL indeed move forward this year with a cash infusion from the city’s Hotel/Motel Tax Fund.

According to sources attributed to the City of Zion and the current Nostalgia Days Committee, plans are underway for the City of Zion to create a “City commission” solely to run and fund the event using tourism dollars from the “Tax and Motel Tax Fund.” This move is not unprecedented as Zion’s Jubilee Days is also a city commission.

As stated on Frank Flammini’s Facebook page, “The City of Zion will financially back Nostalgia Days this year to allow a reorganization of the committee. The money will come from the hotel/motel tax fund. This is not taxpayer dollars, it is revenue from a tax on hotel/motel rooms. This tax can only be spent to promote tourism.”

While speaking with Mr. Flammini, he adds “Last year’s show was the best that I’ve been a part of in the 15 consecutive years I’ve served on this committee. I just couldn’t let it skip a year and lose its ‘Annual’ tag.”

With this additional support from the City of Zion, Nostalgia Days will now move forward and start making the commitments it needs to ensure this event continues with its annual tradition of attracting thousands of people (and tourism dollars), many from outside this area, to the Zion community.
