LAWN MOWER RACING FEATURED IN PREMIER EPISIODE
OF NEW DISCOVERY CHANNEL SERIES!

From Bruce Kaufman, USLMRA Founder & President

What a great way to bring in the New Year!

TUESDAY, JANUARY 6, 2009, 10:00 PM Eastern

An exciting new Discovery Channel series called Wreckreation Nation - features USLMRA Lawnmower Racing from the 2008 STA-BIL Nationals in the series premiere! In this all-new, 13-part series, Discovery Channel promises to entertain and educate viewers through showing them the bizarre, dangerous and dubious ways Americans find to kill time. Host Dave Mordal (of Last Comic Standing fame) travels the nation in search of America’s most unique, ingenious and bizarre hometown pastimes – then dares to take on the local experts at their own game! Wreckreation Nation begins Tuesday, January 6 at 10 PM (ET/PT) on Discovery Channel and the premiere episode features a story on USLMRA-STA-BIL Lawnmower Racing in Delaware, Ohio.

Further information about the show can be found below, which includes the official press release, high-quality preview videos, exclusive photography, brief episode descriptions and more at the following link:

Each of the 13 episodes of WRECKCREATION NATION highlights the adventurous attitudes and fanatical dedication of people across the country – and the lengths they will go in order to have a little fun!

In the premiere episode on Tuesday January 6th at 10 pm, Dave travels to Delaware, Ohio to take part in the National Championship of Lawnmower Racing - proving that all any race really needs is two guys and an engine.

To date, Mordal has also taken part in an Iowa/Illinois tug of war across the Mississippi River; sparred with barbarians, Romans, elves and samurai in Somerset, Pennsylvania; paddled a boat made out of cardboard in Heber Springs, Arkansas; set off fireworks with self-described pyro enthusiasts in Gillette, Wyoming; and attended alligator wrestling school in Mosca, Colorado (despite his morbid fear of reptiles). Best of all, Mordal is inviting viewers to challenge him to their own hometown hobbies by submitting them through the WRECKREATION NATION website."

Discovery Channel network, which reaches 98.1 million viewers in the US, can be seen in over 170 countries,

This high visibility program will no doubt raise significant awareness for our sport!   I, along with many of you, have been seeing the promos and hearing from countless people who are also seeing them.

I also feel that this program will precipitate yet another wave of national attention for the USLMRA, our title sponsor STA-BIL Fuel Stabilzier and the sport of lawn mower racing that will benefit the entire lawn mower racing community regardless of affiliation, independent status or level of competition.

And as the entire lawn mower racing community reaps benefit – racers, host venues, sponsors, partners, etc. - YOU as a proud USLMRA member, partner, sponsor, affiliate or friend can be proud that the sport we created 16 years ago continues to grow…and MOW!

About the USLMRA
United States Lawn Mower Racing Association

It all began on April Fools day in 1992. Executives of Chicago-based Gold Eagle Co. makers
of STA-BIL® Fuel Stabilizer, brought lawn mower racing to the United States after visiting our friends
with the British Lawn Mower Association in England.

They thought lawn mower racing would be an interesting product promotion for STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer.
Since then, the STA-BIL Nationals has grown from one race to more than 20 STA-BIL Regional and STA-BIL Mowdown races across the country.

Overview of USLMRA Racing Classes:
(See USLMRA Rulebook at www.letsmow.com for Complete Rules)

IMOW:
This is a highly regulated class class. The intent is to have as nearly identical mowers as possible so that this class is based on driving ability. Must be a full-size lawn tractor, front engine, steering column behind motor, stamped steel frame and manufactured as such, as delivered except for the modifications listed below. Mid engine frames are not allowed. Governed engines, 3640 RPM max. (No Load). Single-cylinder, valve-in-block highest gear is to be no less than 8 to 1. Example: While in the highest gear the rear wheels can turn no more than one revolution every time the engine rotates 8 times. No Veri-drives.

Prepared Classes:
Full bodied mowers with allowed modifications and engine size rules. Engines can be modified.

A/P:
8 1/2 hp limit. Usually older mowers that came with engines under 8 1/2 hp.

C/P:
all single-cylinder overhead valve and two cylinder valve in block, 4 stroke engines, 20 hp and under. 42"mi unaltered wheelbase. Mid engine frames are not allowed. 6" minimum front wheels. 8" minimum rear wheels.

S/P:
12 hp Flat Head engine limit. Your more common late model lawn mowers.

B/P:
Over 12 hp OHV single CYL, and up to 20 hp block V-twin CYL engines. This class sounds like a pack of Harleys. The V-twins can be built to over 40 hp with aftermarket engine parts. They have lots of power, but are big, heavy and a handful to drive. Fast and loud.

F/X:
Factory Experimental. Engine limited to a single CYL up to 465cc (12-14 hp). Must be a mower engine. Lots of modifications allowed. Trans-Drive train open. This class, while restricted power-wise, is usually light and fast. It can have a kart clutch or torque converter drive systems.
